Twelve teams in the student-run clubs this academic year have either already competed or are headed to national championships.
As the temperature begins to rise in Hanover, so does student traffic in the Club Sports office. Several of the student-run club sport teams are deep into their planning for their respective national championships. This academic year, twelve teams have either already competed or are headed out within the next few weeks to venues across the country. While the confirmed are listed below, there are a few more anticipated to qualify in the coming months.
To the student leaders and participants, nationals are the culmination of hard work and preparation. "Nationals to the team is what we strive for every year. Going to St. Louis and competing for a national championship with some of your best friends is an experience of a lifetime. Also, to be able to play against teams from across the country, the best of the best, and prove that we belong right there with the best teams in the nation, is something that we look forward to every year." – Spencer Watson '25, Men's Club Ice Hockey President
That sentiment is echoed by several others:
"This spring is the first time Dartmouth Triathlon has participated at Collegiate Club Nationals. This is a huge step for our team, finally providing athletes seeking to
compete on a larger stage with an end goal and a race to put their training towards. All 11 of the athletes attending are beyond excited and many of the underclassmen are motivated by the prospect of competing in future years." – Sydney Savarese '25, Triathlon team race planner
"Club Squash for me has been a place where I found a community of like-minded people who are always looking to get better. Joining Club has not only allowed me to spread my love for the sport by teaching newcomers but also has given us the opportunity to compete at a high level! Through our hard work and support from Dartmouth, at our first showing at the Club Squash Nationals Championship we won the Serues Cup which is testament to our love for the game and gratefulness towards Club!" – Avijit Singh '26, Club Squash co-captain
"For me, nationals are the culmination of all our hard work and team building throughout the year. It's an opportunity to fully commit to my love for my teammates and the sport. Nationals truly supports the friendships I've made on the team and deepens our relationships through a shared experience local tournaments can't provide." – Catherine Jewitt '26, Women's Club Volleyball
"Nationals is such a special experience for the team and for me: I have the dates circled on my calendar all year leading up to it. Not only is it special to be in a building with thousands of other students who share our passion for volleyball, but it's also a bonding experience for our team specifically. Spending four days battling on the court and hanging out around the city is the unequivocally best way to end the season!" – Ethan Greenberg '26, Men's Club Volleyball
"Nationals is the culmination of a year's hard work and dedication to the team. It's an incredible bonding experience to travel and compete together over four days; we make tons of unforgettable memories and inside jokes, and we really learn to trust one another and come together as a team as unexpected situations inevitably arise. Nationals weekend is a highlight of the school year." – Julia Lin '25, Fencing co-captain
"The national championships is the culmination of all of our work from the season. The energy is incredibly high at the event, and it is a great opportunity for us to represent not only our team, but the greater Dartmouth community on a national stage." – Grace Chen '24 and Claire Macedonia '24, Figure Skating co-captains
