Wells Willett '24 Wins National Collegiate Cycling Championship

After a successful Eastern Cycling Conference season, Wells Willett '24 left Hanover on May 4 with his bike and Dartmouth Cycling team jerseys in tow, with hopes of a successful trip to the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships in Augusta, Ga.

Willett, a New Paltz, NY native, returned to Hanover on May 9 with a bit more gear in his luggage—two national championship jerseys—and the title of 2022 omnium champion, awarded to the top overall finisher at the event.

The championship event consisted of three events: a time trial, a road race and a criterium.

Willett finished seventh in the 30-minute time trial event on the first day of competition. The next day, Willett won the 70-mile road race, earning him his first national championship jersey of the weekend.

On the third and final day of competition, Willett finished second in the 80-minute criterium race in the center of Augusta's historic Broad Street District.

Willett's combined results for the three-day event earned him the top spot on the podium as overall omnium national champion. "I am beyond thrilled to take home two national championship jerseys for Dartmouth," says Willett. "There is no better way to cap off a successful season and represent the team that made it all possible."
